ABOUT THE ARTIST

I create portraits of a street kid in Ethiopia, idols or even a queen…..young and old….and recently animal portraits sneaked in on me. In both worlds my focus is on the eyes, reflecting part of the inside of the individual giving a lot of intensity in the final artwork.

I feel there is no hiding of essential features in the portrait, and everything is presented in a very straight forward way without every detail, as my art form does not allow that. …… .

Starting out with a photo and my mastering of colors and scales - typically 6-8 different - I succeed creating expressive portraits. I hope you will be surprised how well the artistic level is kept in the works , while the recognizability is striking. Some photos call for grey scale, while others are more colorful or even a combination of both.

Hundreds of fabric scraps are cut out by hand and collected in a collage. The final expression is not there until thread is used to make a raw edge applique stitching to let the fabric piece come together into a whole.

Photograph or my final work?- is it difficult to distinguish? - a close up look will reveal a very detailed craftmanship that usually will disappoint the viewer. Whether you like the portrait itself is not important as long as you enjoy the artwork….this is what I wanna give the world through my creativity.
